Symbol® Portable Barcode ReadersBoth these scanners are serial devices. The CS-1504 comes with either a serial cable or USB cable.Windows Serial InstallationTo use either model scanner with a serial cable is easy. Simply connect the barcode reader cable to any available serial port. You're done.You can also use either scanner with a USB->Serial adapter.
CS-1504 Windows USB InstallationTo use the USB version you will need the USB drivers from Symbol. Symbol CS-1504 USB Hardware InstallationPlug the CS-1504 into any available USB port. When you first connect the device to your computer, Windows will display the new hardware found wizard. The Symbol USB drivers work by emulating a serial port. Once the hardware and driver are installed, check the Windows device manager to determine which serial port the scanner is using. This is the port you must select in the Readerware Scanner Upload dialog. Or you can simply try all ports until the scanner responds. ScanningScanning is simple, just press and hold the larger button and point the device at the barcode. A red line will be visible over the barcode. The reader will beep when it has read the code.To use either device with Readerware, start Readerware auto-catalog. When you get to the item input page, click on the Upload button. The Readerware Scanner Upload dialog will be displayed. Select your scanner model and the port it is connected to. Click on Upload and press the smaller button on the scanner. That is all there is to it. Readerware will connect to the scanner and upload the barcodes to your PC. When it finished click OK to close the dialog and load the barcodes directly into the auto-catalog wizard. As always, full information is provided in the online help.
